      :The shallow seismic profile exploring technology is one of the main geophysical detection method. Based on the transmission and reflection of sound waves in the water and underwater sediment, it could penetrate the shallow stratum structure, the characteristics of sediment and mineral matter distribution. In order to reveal the exact stratum structure and their spatial distribution, avoid the limit of the single sediment core, with the advantages of continuity, high resolution, high quality record and clear figure, seismic profiling is useful for the lake sediment research. Reviewing the development of technology of sub-bottom profiler and its application, based on the principle of the seismic facies interpretation, it has applied to the researches on the water level changes, geological activities, geomorphologic evolution of lake basins and so on. It is obviously seismic profiling has the unique advantage to study the lake sediment formed since later Pleistocene or early Holocene. Recently, combined with the technique of GIS and RS, it leads the 2D and 3D visualization of lake sediment comes true.On the other hand, because of the disadvantage factors including too shallow water, more aquatic plants, thick mud and so on, the reflection of sound waves and the image quality are affected inevitably. For the better use of sub-bottom profile survey, it is necessary to improve the hardware and the software, not only for the high quality data collection, but also for the better data processes.
