The densities for two binary systems (LiCl-H2O and MgCl2-H2O)and the ternary system (LiCl-MgCl2-H2O) over the temperature range from 273.15 to 308.15 K at intervals of 5 K were experimentally determined with a high precision vibrating-tube densitometer. Based on the Vogel-Fulcher-Tamman (VFT) equation,the coefficients of the correlation equation for densities of LiCl(aq) and MgCl2(aq) against temperature and molality were parameterized. The ideal mixing rule of Young was successfully applied to correlate the densities of the ternary system based on relevant binary solution properties. On the basis of volumetric property data of the binary and ternary systems,the Pitzer single-salt parameters (β(0)VMX,β(1)VMX,and CV MX,MX=LiCl and MgCl2) and mixing ion-interaction parameters (θV Li,Mg,ψ VLi,Mg,Cl) were parameterized according to Pitzer ion-interaction theory of single salt and mixture electrolytes,respectively. The volumes of mixing(ΔVm) at constant ionic strength were determined for the ternary system in the present work. |
